Introduction:

Heir island School House offers a holiday home with a difference.
Originally built in 1900 as the Heir Island National School, this home has a lot of history and if walls could talk, there could be many books written from within the boundaries of this now spectacular home.

Very recently renovated and lovingly restored as a home, the old school house has opened its doors to people wanting to come and experience the beauty of the islands off Irelands South West Coast - otherwise known as the Carbery Isles.

The island is accessible from Cunnamore Pier on the mainland and also from coastal cruises departing Schull and Baltimore villages.

The Island is low lying with attractive pastures and small pockets of cultivation. It has an extensive marsh dominated by a reed bed in the centre of the island. All parts are accessible on foot or bicycle and there are excellent sandy beaches where one can find that elusive combination on a hot summers day, a wonderful beach with peace and quiet thrown in!

Heir Island is also home to many well known artists, who were drawn to the island
because of its breathtaking landscape and peaceful atmosphere.

Food lovers travel from far and wide to get a table at the famous Island Cottage
Restaurant. With no pubs, but great food, Heir Island is a great place to get away from it all.

This delightful residence, still has the original timber beams exposed in the ceiling which are now surrounded with modern, tasteful and elegant design.

Downstairs is a large open plan living area with timbered floors, comfortable seating, and a restored fireplace and stove, providing enough warmth to heat the house even on the coldest of winters nights.

Upstairs is a unique mezzanine level with seperate lounge seating around a coffee table, providing views down into the ground floor living room, large windows built into the shape of the roofs apex provide plenty of light and sunshine for those lazy days with a book.

Two bedrooms will provide ample room for up to 5 people to sleep in comfort. With one Double bed downstairs and two single beds upstairs. (a fold away bed available also).
Two bathrooms, one upstairs and downstairs.
Electrical heating is also available in the two bedrooms.

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need for your island adventure should you wish to stay in for the evening.

Outside the house is a large, paved patio area, surrounded by stone walls, a BBQ is available as well.

Stunning views back across to the mainland and the waters in between, sweeping across to Kilcoe Castle compliment this lovely setting.

Heir Island is a very unique place in Ireland, and a stay on the island whilst being accommodated in the old school house is a holiday with a difference and one you will be sure never to forget
